The Top 10 Knitting Podcasts in 2022

The Top 10 Knitting Podcasts in 2022

I. Love. Podcasts. And I love knitting! So of course I hunted down knitting podcasts that I find informative, interesting, and easy to listen to. Whether you’re a newbie knitter looking to learn more about the craft or a seasoned knitter looking to expand your knowledge, a knitter who lives and breathes all things knitting or someone who is craving some virtual knitting pals, knitting podcasts are for you. Below, I list my six favorite knitting podcasts, and I follow it with four more recommendations from fellow knitters. All of these podcasts cover a range of topics including the knitting community, interviewing makers, marketing your fiber business, tips, and techniques. Keep reading and see if you find your next favorite knitting podcast!

1. K2tog Podcast

I just found this podcast last week, but I had to rank it number one. Indie dyer Kara and colorful maker Kenzie started this podcast in 2021, and it honestly makes me think that if New Wave Knitting was a podcast (which, um, would be SO cool, right?) it would be pretty similar to K2tog.

On the podcast, they like to bring in other makers, who may or may not be knitters, to talk about the art of making, and they don’t shy away from discussing controversial issues in the spirit of community. I also like how they incorporate voice memos from listeners into the episodes, which is a great way to give voice to other members of the community.

Overall, this podcast radiates good vibes. If you’re interested in getting introduced to the two knitting pals from Minnesota, here is the link to the first episode. If you’re interested in jumping right in, I recommend Episode 7: Stand in the Gap to Better Support BIPOC Creatives and Makers. And if you’re more of a YouTube person, they have a channel that accompanies the podcast, so you can get it over there instead!

2. Fiber Radio

I’ve been listening to Anastasia Williams’ podcast “Fiber Radio” (which used to be called “Making Magic”) for quite a few months now and I really enjoy it. Anastasia used to run a naturally-dyed yarn business, but is now a Fiber Business Coach, meaning she offers business coaching to makers in the fibers community! Her coaching costs money, of course, but her podcast has lots of incredible business and marketing advice tailored exactly to fit our community.

The podcast covers a bunch of topics, including collaborations, marketing strategies, launches, Etsy, and more. She also has one-on-one coaching episodes, where one of her clients gets coached on air so all of us listeners can benefit from the knowledge being shared.

If you’re a maker looking to monetize your craft and are interested in feeling this podcast out, check out the first episode! In it, Anastasia introduces herself and goes over the focus and expectations of the podcast. One thing about this podcast that I appreciate is that Anastasia works to challenge the status quo when it comes to business norms in the knitting community. A great episode to start with is “So, You Want to Start a [Fiber] Business”!

3. Make Good: A Knitting Podcast

When I asked people on the New Wave Knitting Instagram what knitting podcasts they like to listen to, this podcast came up more than once. And I totally get why! I’ve been listening to Make Good for a while and I love the knowledge that Jessica and Karen share as they run their local yarn store Scratch Supply Co. in Lebanon, New Hampshire.

This podcast focuses more on the technical side of knitting as they share information and tips on specific techniques. They also discuss what they are making, their favorite tools, and interview makers. They also answer questions that people send to them! As a whole, I’m not a huge fan of knitting podcasts or blogs that focus on the technical side of knitting (which is one reason why I wanted to create New Wave Knitting!). However, for me, Make Good is the perfect combo of informative and fun.

You get a taste of what the podcast is all about in the first episode. In it, you get to meet the hosts and listen in as they talk about a problem a lot of us have probably faced: being asked to reproduce a commercial sweater. I also love their two-part series called “Yarn Detectives” where they help you learn all about yarn. Part 1 is handy in case you have scraps that you lost the ball band for and need to figure out yarn weights and yardages, and Part 2 is super informative on determining yarn fibers without any context except the fiber itself.

4. VeryPink Knits

Since we ALL rely on knitting tutorials on YouTube (so mind-blowing how knitters got on before the internet), you have probably come across VeryPink Knits’ YouTube tutorials. Staci is the person behind VeryPink Knits, which is my favorite knitting tutorial YouTube channel that I have found so far. If I ever need to look something up and she has a video for it, I’m going there first. So I was SO excited to find out that she has a podcast, too!

This is another podcast that focuses on the technicalities of knitting, but I just love how Staci explains everything. It also mainly revolves around answering questions submitted by knitters, which I love to listen to. Some of the questions are things I haven’t experienced yet, and some of the answers provide information I wouldn’t have thought of on my own.

Most of the episodes cover a wide variety of topics depending on the questions, but with the episodes being only 20 minutes or so long, they are short enough where you are able to digest all of the information given to you. I really enjoyed Episode 208: Picking Your Next Project, where one question revolved around the frustration of new project overwhelm, which I totally relate to. Staci gives some good tips on how to overcome it, but I also recommend creating a knitwear capsule wardrobe. It has significantly decreased the amount of time I take when it comes to picking out my next project and the yarn that goes along with it.

5. Tom Slips into Conversation with

I found this podcast this past summer and love putting it on when I’m puttering around the house or going for a walk. This podcast is the creation of Tom from @knitslips, and it is very aptly named. Each episode is a conversation that Tom has with another maker, who are sometimes knitters, sometimes crocheters, and sometimes makers of a different craft outside of the fibers world.

Together, Tom and his guests have casual chats about life, mental health, and the love of making. The Season One Intro is just a minute or so long and Tom goes over the idea behind the podcast and who is interviewed in season one. I honestly loved all of the chats on the podcast, but I'd say my favorite was the talk with Lizzie from @hive_knits. When she was interviewed, she talked about her desire to begin pattern designing, and she has since released her first pattern! And it was interesting to get a peek into her life.

Season 2 ended in June 2021 and there haven’t been any new episodes since, but I highly recommend working your way through the existing episodes if you want a chill podcast to put on in the background as people talk about crafting. I hope Tom comes out with more episodes, but it looks like he’s been adding a few monthly episodes on his YouTube channel, where you can also watch the podcast episodes in Season 1 and Season 2.

6. Unraveling… A Knitting Podcast

I found this podcast a couple of months ago by stumbling on Greg’s Instagram (@knittingdaddy). Through his link in bio, I found his website’s About page, where I read his story on how he started knitting, which I thought was really sweet, and I ended up checking out the podcast.

Together, Greg and Pam are a pair of knitting friends who talk about life and what they’re making. They also run an active Ravelry group, where people submit questions that they go over on the podcast. I like the sense of community Greg and Pam bring to the table, and if you’re an active Ravelry user, I highly recommend checking out their group as well as their podcast.

My favorite episodes so far are their “book club” episodes, where they go over chapters of books that focus on knitting information. I especially love the series they have on The Knitter’s Book of Yarn: The ultimate guide to choosing, using, and enjoying yarn by Clara Parkes, as I was gifted a copy of this book from an online knitting pal through a holiday gift swap that Eshani (@woolwala) hosted this past holiday season! I use this book as a reference a lot and love to listen to the deep dives they do into the chapters. However, you don’t need a copy of the book to follow along! I found episode 126: Book Club: The Knitter’s Book of Yarn - Synthetic Fibers really interesting as they talk about the different kinds of synthetic fibers.

Other Favorite Knitting Podcasts

So those above are my six favorite knitting podcasts that I listen to regularly! When researching for this episode, I asked fellow knitters on the New Wave Knitting Instagram if they have any podcasts that they love to listen to. Below is a list with some of their recommendations that weren’t included above:

7. Yarniacs

As the hosts describe it, Yarniacs is “a podcast and blog from two knitting friends in search of the perfect yarn!” I listened to a few episodes, and it reminds me of Make Good, which is listed above, but with more chatting about what they are working on and what yarns they are using. If you’re interested in listening to people chat about their makes, I recommend giving it a listen.

8. Pomcast

This podcast is produced by the makers of the gorgeous Pom Pom magazine. In the podcast, the hosts give tips, talk about their makes, and interview makers. I loved Episode 70: Lydia Morrow because I’m a big fan of Lydia’s work (@whatlydiamade). This didn’t make it into my top list because I find it a bit more dry, but if that sounds up your alley, then check it out! (Note that this podcast isn’t available on Spotify.)

9. The SweetGeorgia Show

Felicia Lo Wong, the person behind SweetGeorgia, is a designer, dyer, spinner, and more, and has interviews and has informative episodes on fiber arts in her podcast. Like with Pomcast, I also found this one to be a bit dry for my taste, but there is a lot of good information shared within.

10. Knit Picks’ Podcast

Although they haven’t released any new episodes since August 2021, the yarn company Knit Picks has a podcast that is a treasure trove filled with over 300 informative episodes. These episodes could help you gain knowledge and expand your skills, whether you're a beginner or an experienced knitter. They also have a lot of interviews with makers! I like to use this podcast as a reference source when I’m interested in learning about a specific technique or topic.

Whether you’re looking to learn or just hear people chat about the craft we love, knitting podcasts are awesome to listen to. I hope this list helped you find a new podcast to add to your routine! Do you have a favorite knitting podcast that wasn't listed above? Comment it below so others can check it out!
