18 Cozy Knitting Patterns for Fall

This could be totally untrue but I feel like fall is the most beloved season for knitters. Summer knits are fun, but settling in with a cozy blanket as it gets dark earlier, lighting a candle, putting on a movie, sipping your favorite yummy hot beverage, and casting on a project to keep you warm and happy throughout the colder weather… wow. If that sounds like heaven to you, too, then we are one and the same, my friend. To help set the mood for this fall knitting season, I have curated a lovely list of cozy patterns that you’ll want to cast on right after taking that first sip.

Fall Sweater Knitting Patterns

Sweaters and fall go together like apple cider donuts and corn mazes. (If you don’t do a corn maze every fall where they also sell apple cider donuts, what are you even doing?)

Daily Ritual Raglan

If you’ve been craving a soft and cozy turtleneck sweater, then it is time to cast on the Daily Ritual Raglan. This pattern is designed to be made with one strand of fingering weight yarn and one strand of mohair to whip up into a light, fluffy fabric to cuddle up and hibernate in.

This pattern is by Park and Knit. View the Daily Ritual Raglan on Ravelry.

Billie Zip

This trendy zipper sweater with a cinched drawstring waist is PERFECT for fall. Can’t you just imagine apple picking in it? With 3-4” of positive ease, it is just the right amount of cozy. Wear it by itself or as a staple layering piece.

This pattern is by Knitwear By Joan. View the Billie Zip on Ravelry.

Adagio Hoodie

Already have enough sweaters? Then make your own hoodie! This pattern works up quickly with bulky yarn, but you will love taking your day slowly while wearing it. Make this hoodie truly your own by mixing up colors, stripes, color blocks, or using double strands of thinner yarns. Then live in it all fall and winter.

This pattern is by Mezzo Makes. View the Adagio Hoodie on Ravelry.

Saturn Jumper

If you’re looking to use up your yarn scraps this fall to make room for, well, more yarn, then make the Saturn Jumper! If you are craving a sweater that is a burst of color throughout the fall and winter, this could be a great sweater to make. But can’t you also see it made out of all your neutral-colored scraps for the ideal fall vibe?

This pattern is by The Knit Edit. View the Saturn Jumper on Ravelry.

Earth and Air

This top is a bit more light than the sweaters suggested above, making it a perfect option if you live in a place with a warmer fall season. You can also customize the sleeve length as you wish! The texture of this top is so dreamy, and I love how you can contrast the colors within the brioche pattern. Check out how some knitters on the Ravelry page combined autumnal colors to create a very fall-aesthetic look.

Fall Cardigan Knitting Patterns

With the weather fluctuating throughout the days and weeks, having a handknit cardigan close by for quick layering is absolutely essential.

Let’s Boogie Cardigan

If you’re looking for a cardigan that you can throw on whenever and wherever then you’re looking to knit up the Let’s Boogie Cardigan. I actually test knit this design last fall and can solemnly swear that I live in this cardigan throughout the fall and winter. Make yourself one and let’s be the coziest twins alive!

This pattern is by ahoneyknits. View the Let’s Boogie Cardigan on Ravelry.

Miles Shirt Jacket

Okay, this isn’t so much a cardigan but a jacket. The Miles Shirt Jacket is the kind of thing you’ll wear as you drink your morning beverage, do chores around the house, or shop at the farmer’s market or your favorite local yarn shop. It really looks like one of those garments that become a piece of you.

This pattern is by Ozetta. View the Miles Shirt Jacket on Ravelry.

Fall Long Sleeve Tops Knitting Patterns

Cozy fall clothes don’t JUST consist of sweaters and cardigans. There are so many nice, long sleeve tops and blouses that we can comfortably wear now that the weather is cooler.

Sahara Wrap Sweater

This bulky weight top is so chic. Personally, this design would be much too warm for me to flaunt on most summer days, but I actually just bought this pattern to step up my fall wardrobe. I can’t wait to knit this up!

This pattern is by Camel Knits. View the Sahara Wrap Sweater on Ravelry.

Maid You Fall Blouse

Peasant tops have been SO in style, but they don’t have to go out with summer. The Maid You Fall Blouse keeps the trend going. And look at the cuff and ruffle hem details. Designed to be made with blown yarn, this top is just as cozy as it is cute.

This pattern is by Oshen Knits. View the Maid You Fall Blouse on Ravelry.

Cloud Bow Pullover

Like Earth and Air, the Cloud Bow Pullover is another top that is on the lighter side. However, making and wearing this design would not be the most fun during warmer weather because it is made entirely out of mohair. I’m imagining working this pattern up with a single color to create a fairy-esque fall top.

This pattern is from Pom Pom Magazine. View the Cloud Bow Pullover on Ravelry.

Winona Polo

This pattern isn’t actually out yet, but how cool is this oversized polo by @emmes.knits? Whether making it one color or adding fall-aesthetic stripes, I can definitely see the Winona Polo as a go-to until the snow starts to melt. Make sure to follow Emily on Instagram and stay tuned for the pattern release!

Fall Tee and Tank Knitting Patterns

Another way to mix up your fall style is to layer with a knitted tank, vest, or tee! Whether you throw a cardigan over or a long-sleeve tee under, these designs will add some variety to your closet this fall.

Harvest Tee

I mean, the name of this pattern alone would earn this design a spot on this list, but it is also such a classic and lovely loose and boxy tee. Whether worn on its own or with a long-sleeve tee underneath, this design is a must-make for fall.

This pattern is by Ozetta. View the Harvest Tee on Ravelry.

Tumble Tee

Where the Harvest Tee gives a more loose and boxy fit, the Tumble Tee is designed to be form-fitting. The tee is perfect for a warmer fall day and could be paired with your go-to jeans, or a long skirt, or really whatever. It is such a classic design that I’m sure you’ll be reaching for it all the time.

This pattern is by What Lydia Made. View the Tumble Tee on Ravelry.

Cold Heart Tank

The Cold Heart Tank is another design that can be worn on its own on a warm fall day, but it’s also so nice to layer with. Made with worsted weight yarn, it is just right as your go-to sweater vest or when you just need another layer. I made a black Cold Heart Tank this spring and am so excited to mix and match it with the other clothes in my wardrobe this fall.

This pattern is by Wool and the Gang. View the Cold Heart Tank on their website

Get It Twisted Tank

If you’re looking to make something a little fun and different, I recommend checking out the Get It Twisted Tank! This is another design that would be great for layering. It is a sleeveless top with a loose and boxy fit, a mock neck, AND a drawstring hem on the bottom. How cool is that?!

This pattern is by Lemon Squeezy Knits. View the Get It Twisted Tank on Ravelry.

Fall Dress Knitting Pattern + Fall Skirt Knitting Pattern

Whether you have a special occasion to attend this fall or are just looking to dress up, these warm and cozy but also pretty and sexy patterns are just for you.

The Staple Skirt

Okay, I’m a bit biased with this one but this skirt design is seriously so great for fall! Designed to be made with bulky weight yarn, it will keep you nice and warm. Also, because this pattern is made-to-measure and has a customizable length, you can really make it the skirt of your dreams! Dress it up or down and create a skirt that is a true closet staple.

This pattern is by New Wave Knitting! View the Staple Skirt on Ravelry, my website, or Etsy

Maid You Fall Dress

While a variation of this pattern is listed above (The Maid You Fall Blouse), this dress pattern is to DIE for. This pattern is also designed with blown yarn, making it warm, soft, and cozy. And there are lots of customizations included within the pattern to make it a dress you want to pull out and put on time and time again throughout fall and winter.

This pattern is by Oshen Knits. View the Maid You Fall Dress on Ravelry.

Fall Accessories Knitting Patterns

One of my favorite things about fall is that the weather is just right to allow you to be creative with your accessories!

Deima’s Bandana

Deima’s Bandana is such a sweet and simple pattern that can be worn in SO many ways. Wear it around your neck, tied in the front or back. You can also wear it on your head! (Okay, maybe not THAT many ways, but I can see it adding so much cuteness to so many outfits!) I’m a little upset that I haven’t made one myself yet, but I’m planning on making one with some scrap yarn soon. I can’t wait to style this bandana.

This pattern is by Deima Knitwear. View Deima’s Bandana on their website.

The Staple Beanies

If you’re a fan of hats, then you must be beyond excited for beanie season! The Short and Tall Staple Beanies are classic beanie designs that are customizable to your unique head measurements!

The Short Staple Beanie beanie has recommendations for fitting above or over the ears, but you can really make it as short or as long as you want. It is designed to fit flush against your head.

The Tall Staple Beanie is designed with extra length on top, and that length is proportionate to your head circumference.

Both patterns create knitted hats that fit everyone’s head like a dream, and the simple designs make them staples for cold and breezy weather, bad hair days, or whenever you wanna wear a cute beanie! Pair them with your favorite flannel, and you’re ready to go to your next fall activity.

This pattern is by me, New Wave Knitting. Shop the Tall Staple Beanie or the Short Staple Beanie, or get over 20% off each by shopping them both in the Staple Beanie Bundle!

Comment below if you’re feeling inspired for fall and what you plan on making! I know that there are lots of sweet pattern recommendations above.
